Via Science is looking for an individual with the curiosity to derive new insights from data that can help transform our clients’ businesses. The ideal candidate will find him or herself as part of a data science team at the interface of quantitative science and software engineering. He/she will deliver a high-performance computing infrastructure on demand to support internal teams and external clients as they build advanced analytics applications using our Focus™ architecture.

Via Science has over 10 years of experience solving mission critical causal inference challenges with Bayesian networks-based architecture. Currently, we work across the energy and heavy industry, critical infrastructure and security sectors to solve for risk assessment, anomaly detection and causal inference.

​What are some examples of your responsibilities?

As a Data Engineer, you will take a lead role in developing and managing Cloud infrastructure to support our data scientists:

  • Choose appropriate Big Data technologies to solve client problems
  • Install, configure, and administer compute clusters
  • Manage database design and administration
  • Maintain continuous integration builds of key software components

​Qualified candidates should be/have:

  • 3+ years of experience in a data engineering role
  • A degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in computer science or related fields
  • Competent in the following technologies:
    • Hadoop-based tools (e.g. HDFS, YARN, Hive, Pig, Spark, Flink)
    • Cloud infrastructure tools (e.g. AWS, OpenStack, Docker, Ansible)
    • Database technologies (e.g. SQL, NoSQL)
    • Programming languages (Java, C++, Python)
    • Continuous integration tools (e.g. Jenkins)
  • A demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Prior experience working in advanced analytics and/or HPC environments
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter and critical thinker with excellent follow-up and organizational skills
  • Strong desire to learn and ask questions
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Desire to work in a high energy, startup environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
