This is an important role at the heart of our business. The role calls for the candidate to demonstrate strong commercial acumen applied to previous trading experience preferably of commodities in wholesale traded markets.

  • Setup and develop the company's energy trading operations in accordance with company business strategy and risk policy
  • Maximise the value of the spot and forward trading positions
  • Develop hedging and risk management solutions to support the growth of fixed price power and similar retail products for our supply business
  • Ensure all necessary documentation and processes are complied with fully and within tight deadlines
  • Create value from the diverse portfolio of energy commodity price and volume obligations
  • Maintain a partnering approach with the risk, finance and operations functions
  • Represent Vayu on external work programmes with the various industry stakeholders in the energy sectors, both here and abroad


  • Actively transacting natural gas or power in a traded wholesale market for a minimum of two years.
  • Excellent knowledge of risk management, trading and hedging techniques and strategies.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills; rapid processor of information.
  • Highly disciplined, focused and effective decision-maker.
  • Ability to cope and respond quickly in a high pressure and high stress environment and role.
  • Ability to function effectively and accurately under time constraints.
  • Effectively articulate difficult and complex ideas and concepts through clear and concise verbal, visual and/or written communication.

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum 2.1 honours university degree qualification
  • Previous trading experience preferably of commodities for the most recent 24 months
  • In depth knowledge of at least one ETRM (Energy Trading and Risk Management) or similar system
  • Experienced user of Excel and of at least one database system
