The Leixlip campus is the largest of Intel’s three sites located in Ireland. Intel has invested over $12.5 billion in turning the 360-acre former stud farm into one of the most technologically advanced manufacturing locations in Europe employing over 4,500 people.
Our Leixlip campus is home to a semiconductor wafer fabrication facility which produces 14nm process technology on 300mm wafers--the latest generation silicon microprocessors that are at the heart of a variety of platforms and technology advancements which are essential to the way we learn, live and work today.
The Leixlip campus is also home to the Silicon Nano electronics Research Team, Product Development Group, Innovation Lab, and Quark IoT Solutions Group.
Our IoT Wearables Group is involved in the design of the successful Intel Galileo Development Board which is at the cutting edge of the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable markets. Our Galileo board makes wearable devices like your watch, earphones, and bracelets smart and interactive. Our Curie model powers innovations such as BMX smart bikes that provide bikers with the technology to track their speed and movements.

Employing approximately 250 employees, Intel Shannon has grown into a core European R&D site for Intel’s Communications and Intelligent Systems businesses. These businesses are quickly evolving from fixed function and isolated embedded applications towards new categories like intelligent systems and software defined infrastructure (SDI).
The three main focus areas on campus working to deliver Intel’s strategies are Communications & Storage Infrastructure, Automotive and Retail. By far the largest Group in Shannon, Communications and Storage Infrastructure Group (CSIG) is focused on the vision of “Transforming the Infrastructure to connect, protect and enrich the digital lives of every person on earth”.
The Automotive Solutions (ASD) accelerates the next generation of compelling intelligent connected car experiences by delivering a scalable, pre-validated, standards-based modular platform to help automakers more quickly get to market with brand-differentiating driving experiences.
From real-time inventory management to optimising brands across channels, the Retail Solutions Division (RSD) is helping businesses create the kinds of richer, more personalized consumer engagement that drives customer loyalty, and can translate into profits.
These businesses continue to grow driven by Shannon’s expertise.
Following the acquisition by Intel of global security software company McAfee in 2011 some 350 people based in Cork became part of Intel operations in Ireland and today form part of the Intel Security Group.
The Intel Security Group delivers proactive and proven security solutions and services for systems, networks, and mobile devices around the world.
With its visionary Security Connected strategy, innovative approach to hardware-enhanced security, and unique global threat intelligence network, the group is relentlessly focused on keeping its customers safe.
The company’s innovative and highly motivated professional team have strong educational backgrounds and multilingual abilities. Within the Irish operation the company’s team are employed in 15 different functional areas, represent 31 nationalities and speak 16 languages.
