Role Scenario

Shazam generates a vast amount of data from usage across the globe. We are looking for someone who is passionate about information, and learning about people through data. This person should be analytical in nature, and be able to utilize all the data sources we leverage to help drive informed business decisions for Shazam. The way we work with our partners is a key part of our business, so advertising analysis will be a major focus for this role.

We work hard to tell a logical story through creative visualizations and focused insights. This helps sell our product and highlight its value to all our current and prospective clients. Your role will be critical in providing actionable and informed materials for our Sales, Marketing, and Press teams around the world.

As part of the Research team, project focuses will vary in topic and goals, but all aim at enhancing Shazam’s revenue generation and overall consumer product. This role will have opportunities for high level exposure within the Sales and Product organization, and the work generated will help shape strategic decisions for the business.

What Will You Do?

The role is based in New York City and reports into our Senior Director, Research with daily involvement with the wider Research team, the entire Sales Organization, and the Product team.

What Will You Do?

  • Function as part of the Research team with a focus on commercial work, but with a wider scope to cover other projects.
  • Build a firm understanding of Shazam’s commercial landscape and provide ideas of how both the business and the Research team can continuously evolve.
  • Work closely with other members of the Research team to help inform and guide strategic initiatives.
  • Help our Sales and Product teams to identify and use the information we generate, so we can always appeal to the right client at the right time. Performance tracking, data layering, insight generation, and ultimately ROI analyses are just a few of the ways the Research team supports our internal teams.
  • Understand clients’ individual strategies and identify where Shazam can add value into their businesses by utilizing our data.
  • Produce user friendly reports highlighting key data that can be shared externally. Helping to demonstrate Shazam’s performance now, while thinking innovatively about our capabilities for the future.


  • Sound experience in similar data-centric research support roles, ideally working in Mobile, TV, or similar media.
  • Understanding of the advertising industry across the U.S.
  • Knowledge/experience writing SQL.
  • Strong statistical and analytical skills, demonstrating a firm understanding of how to turn massive amounts of data into condensed, insightful, actionable, and understandable materials.
  • The ability to clearly communicate the results of your analyses in an effective manner.
  • Project management experience, especially coordinating/managing multiple projects at once. Candidate should have the capacity to develop clear understanding of the business needs, and ultimately translate them into relevant data queries to inform direction and strategy.
  • Expertise in using Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and Powerpoint.
  • BA/BS/MA/MS degree, with background/experience in media, statistics, or mathematics.
