Title: Finance lead – exact title to be discussed

Location: New York, NY


Working closely with the CEO and the VP of Strategy & Operations, the finance lead will manage financial matters of the business. This will include financial planning, decision support and investor communications support. The finance lead will also serve as an overall strategic leader of Mass Appeal, building and managing the Company’s finance team and leading the development of the finance function alongside the growth of the overall business.

The successful candidate will support Mass Appeal’s strategic business objectives with a broad financial skillset, in addition to bringing a track record of operation in high-growth environments and management of diverse revenue streams. This role will directly manage an accounting resource (currently on staff) and will work with senior management to determine additional hiring needs over time.


Finance Operations

 Act as a strategic business partner to Mass Appeal’s senior management team

 Lead the development and management of financial processes and controls for Mass Appeal including weekly & monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, new business tracking, hiring & investment tracking, etc.

 Oversee the day-to-day cash management, accounting, and general ledger across a diverse business model: production and development of film, TV and commercial content, digital media, creative services, record label and more

 Manage monthly and annual closes and manage an annual audit process when appropriate (the Company currently does not have audited financials)

 Identify, acquire and implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information

 Grow the finance team as the business scales

 Operate in a GAAP compliant manner to ensure that Mass Appeal is managed properly by US standards

 Optimize Mass Appeal’s tax situation, in the US and abroad

 Ensure that corporate and business continuation insurance is active, and be familiar with the business insurance policies to guarantee legal compliance and financial performance

 Oversee employee benefits, considering the on-going financial implications of 401k and employee benefit programs on the company

Financial Planning

 Work closely with team leaders to prepare and present monthly and annual budgets

 Assist in tracking sales / new business activity and expense management. Work with senior management to adjust financial targets and operating plans accordingly

 Manage financial planning and analysis. Supervise creation of reports, software implementation and tools for budgeting and forecasting

 Collaborate with team leaders to recommend improvements for business profitability measures, leveraging internal data analyses and external benchmarking. Work with team leaders and the VP of Strategy & Operations to implement related initiatives

 Partner closely with sales, business development and product teams to add financial rigor and oversight to business decisions, and support them in contracting and negotiations

Investor Management and Fundraising

 Work with senior management to manage the Company’s Board of Directors including monthly reporting, quarterly meetings, discrete requests / analyses and required approvals & documentation

 Prepare key investment messages regarding financial performance, business conditions, strategies and growth fundamentals

 Develop financial updates for Board meetings and financial components of investor presentations

 Work with VP of Strategy & Operations to develop funding plan and make capitalization recommendations (equity and/or debt) considering immediate and long-term financial needs


 Experience providing leadership in all aspects of finance, including Financial Operations / Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis and Investor Management. Fundraising is a plus

 8+ years of progressively responsible financial experience. Has played a critical financial role with an early stage, high growth company

 A track record of overseeing the analysis of operating results as well as monthly P&L

 Success developing and approving operating and capital budgets

 Proven success developing and maintaining financial policies and procedures, along with establishing an infrastructure to support budgeting and the long-term planning process

 Previously performed analyses that provide management with an understanding of business trends and issues, based on traditional business experience as well as an informed understanding of fast-changing market valuations and trends

 Prior success driving and orchestrating large, cross-enterprise transformation projects

 Proven critical and strategic thinking and ability to lead team members on tight deadlines

 Proven Financial Planning experience, and in depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices

 Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods

 Experience in M&A preferred

 CPA is a strong advantage

 BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
