The Documentation team is a diverse group of individuals who develop and maintain the documentation for the MongoDB products. Our goal is to help our readers successfully use MongoDB products by providing clear and complete documentation.  

Candidate Profile

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience mentoring/providing feedback to team members
  • Experience writing technical documentation from scratch
  • 2+ years of programming experience (e.g. JavaScript, Python, Java, C++, C#)
  • 2+ years of experience working with databases (RDBMS or NoSQL)
  • 5+ years of technical writing experience
  • Experience managing multiple projects 

Position Expectations

  • Work with various teams (server/application engineers, product managers, designers, etc) to determine/meet documentation needs of our users
  • Provide technical feedback and mentoring to team members
  • Create documentation from scratch
  • Utilize your programming/database experiences to create relevant examples/tutorials
  • Research product features through reading source code and testing the features 

Success Measures

The lead technical writer will be successful in this role when they can execute the following strategic tasks/responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Provide technical and editorial guidance to team members. Gain the trust of fellow team members
  • Team work: Successfully collaborate with team members to create documentation for new features
  • Ownership: Deliver on multiple documentation projects. Successful delivery includes: researching the product, considering the information architecture, and writing/validating the content
